UKC Women's Volleyball Recap November 15-21

Women’s Volleyball

Hosting St. Thomas University just a week after their last meeting in Fredericton, the UKC Women’s team took a big leap competitively, even if they failed to take the win this past weekend. In the their game on November 13, the Blue Devils struggled tremendously, dropping three consecutive sets unceremoniously and twice tallying 10 or fewer points.

The replay at King’s proved to be an altogether different affair. Despite dropping the first set to the visitors 16-25, the UKC Women rallied in the second, winning 25-22. Third and fourth sets would go the way of the Tommies to secure the win, but both by narrow margins of 21-25 and 18-25. Converted outside-hitter Emma Wilson once again led the way for the Blue Devils recording 16 kills, while setter Claire Traynor added 22 assists. Rookie middle Elena Neufeld recorded a team-high three aces from the service line. The Tommies boasted a well-balanced offense, particularly from the service line, with Danica Godin and Abby Lanteigne each tallying five service aces.

The UKC Women will use the positivity from the loss as a springboard as they head into the final stretch of games before the winter break. The Blue Devils sit 7th in the ACAA standings but they know there is a lot of volleyball left to be played . They’ll look to capitalize on their momentum with a short turnaround bringing the Chargers of Crandall University to Halifax for the teams’ first meeting; a rare Friday night match on November 26 at 6 p.m. This match, and all others will be streamed on ACAA.tv.
