The Humanities for Young People (HYP) is a residential summer program for bright and highly-motivated students from ages 15 to 17. It will take place at the University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia in July 4–12, 2026. Secondary school students from across the country, and even beyond, will have the unique opportunity to work closely and collaboratively with scholars from a variety of disciplines.
There is no fee to apply to HYP. Students are not required to pay a deposit or program fee at the time of application. Deposits are requested only after admission offers are made. Admitted students will be asked to submit a $300 deposit to confirm their participation.
The 2026 program fee is $1,650. This fee includes accommodation, meals, academic programming and materials, field trips and evening activities. Travel to and from Halifax is not included. HYP operates on a cost-recovery basis.
HYP offers needs-based financial aid to support participants who may not otherwise be able to attend. Families seeking assistance are encouraged to complete the financial aid form (available below) at their earliest convenience. Applications for financial aid are considered independently and do not affect admission decisions. Early submission helps ensure funding information is available to families when admission offers are released. Financial aid is made possible through grants, bequests, and dedicated fundraising efforts.
