2SLGBTQIA+ Health-care Supports

Dalhousie Student Health and Wellness

Dalhousie Student Health and Wellness has four WPATH-trained physicians who can provide gender-affirming care. There is no need for external assessors if students go through Dalhousie Student Health – everything can be done at the clinic, including referrals to GRS Montreal for gender-affirming surgery. This is a much faster option than going through the Halifax Sexual Health Centre or Pride Health.

Students interested in gender affirming care can book with one of the following doctors by calling 902-494-2171

  • Dr. Glenn Andrea
  • Dr. Samantha Stasiuk
  • Dr. Amy Mallory
  • Dr. Muna Chowdhury

STI testing for patients of all identities is also available.

Physicians are also able to prescribe pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) for the prevention of HIV.

Boyd’s Pharmacy

Boyd’s is a community pharmacy that focuses on 2SLGBTQIA+ wellness. They are a great place to get HRT prescriptions filled, and the pharmacists offer testosterone administration and technique teaching. They also offer free injection supplies to patients.

Boyd’s is also a participant in the BLOOM program. Patients with one or more mental health diagnoses and a medication problem are eligible for one-on-one care, patient advocacy, help managing medication-related issues, and assistance navigating the mental health and additions system.

To contact Boyd’s, call 902-417-2088 or email info@boydspharmasave.ca.

Halifax Sexual Health Centre

The Halifax Sexual Health Centre (HSHC) offers gender-affirming care and sexual health care. This may be an appropriate clinic for students who do not wish to receive sexual health care on campus, but please note that the wait times may be significantly longer than they are at Dalhousie Student Health and Wellness.

To book an appointment, call 902-455-9656.

Pride Health

Pride Health provides referrals to gender-affirming care providers, affirming mental health care providers, and sexual health care providers. Pride Health may be a helpful resource for graduating students seeking a primary care physician in Nova Scotia.

Please note that wait times for referrals may be significantly longer than they are at Dalhousie Student Health and Wellness. To contact Pride Health, email pridehealth@nshealth.ca
