A panel discussion with Dalhousie and King’s professors in Cinema and Media Studies, Classics, and the Foundation Year Program about Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster adaptation of The Odyssey. What happens to Homer’s poem when it becomes a Christopher Nolan film? What cinematic vision of Odysseus and his return home is Nolan trying to capture, and does he succeed? What motivates his directorial choices? What might we learn about both Homer’s poem and our own times by thinking about the film?
The panel brings together scholars of film, ancient Greek history and literature, professors in the Foundation Year Program who have studied and taught Homer’s Odyssey for decades, and a local filmmaker.
